Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

You will be a manager within a team of experienced Specialist Teachers and inclusion practitioners who work closely together and support each other to improve the outcomes for children, families, schools, and settings, in particular children with SEND, who have been, or are at risk of being permanently excluded, and who have medical or other needs which prevent regular attendance at school and who require alternative education provision under Sect. 19 of the Education Act 1996.

The team also promotes the development of close links with schools, families, partner teams and services, with other agencies and with the voluntary sector.

Duties include the line management of inclusion practitioners, deployment of resource to support a diverse and challenging caseload, liaising closely with senior leaders in school and the development of resources and training. You will work strategically alongside other Access and Inclusion Coordinators in the wider county team.

The role will require county-wide travel.

About you

First and foremost, you will be a qualified teacher who is passionate about ensuring education inclusion for all children, and who is able to be a champion for the most vulnerable.

You will have experience of supporting children with SEND, in particular SEMH needs. You will have a broad range of relevant experience and a strong CPD record. You will have extensive knowledge and experience of working with schools. You will have experience of management or supervision and oversight of support staff.

You will be able to work both independently and jointly with other professionals and have the confidence and knowledge to deliver training and advice to settings, often in the most challenging circumstances.

It is essential that you have the ability to work autonomously, to effectively deploy and manage resources, to support team members who may be working in emotionally challenging circumstances, and to prioritise work and meet deadlines.

You will have a thorough understanding of the factors that promote successful inclusion and be passionate about supporting settings to implement appropriate strategies which help to improve children’s attendance, engagement, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and learning.

You will have thorough knowledge and understanding of exclusion, and factors impacting attendance, including the legal processes and the SEND Code of Practice.
