Analyst

About the role

We are looking to recruit to an expanding team to help the Council harness the potential of data, using evidence and best practice to support and inform the development of policy, strategy, plans and budgets, and in turn deliver the Corporate Strategy for Cambridgeshire County Council.

The Council has a number of major change projects underway, delivering improvements to service delivery across our education and children's social care functions.  Working alongside team colleagues and service leads, the post holder will lead on the extraction, transformation and analysis of relevant datasets to help services monitor the impact of these change projects.

We are seeking candidates with proven technical knowledge and intellectual curiosity to confidently explore complex datasets and can demonstrate a solution-focused approach to problem solving.

Key areas of responsibility will include the development of Power Bi dashboards, the provision of robust, timely and accurate analysis using locally gathered and nationally available management, performance and benchmarking datasets.

The Analyst role is pivotal in providing senior leaders with insight including forecasting and the impact of policy to support effective decision-making, often at short notice, therefore, the ability to synthesise datasets, problem solve and generate insight which is otherwise unavailable whilst working under pressure to meet tight deadlines is crucial to this position.

The post holder will need to be confident in presenting approaches and analysis to a nontechnical audience.  There will be a need for this post holder to be able to interpret requirements, plan the best approach to synthesis and analyse data, before then producing the results in an appropriate reporting style which thinks strategically about the purpose, audience and how the insight produced can best be used.

This role is an exciting opportunity to further your analytical career and help data make a difference!

The demand for our services has never been greater!  With budgets of millions of pounds that impact on thousands of vulnerable people every year, services rely upon the analysis, information and advice provided by our team to make informed decisions – so you’ll really have a chance to make a difference.

The roles sit within Cambridgeshire County Council’s newly formed Policy, Performance & Intelligence Service. A team of 50 individuals who provide data, analysis, insight and policy expertise to support the operational management and strategic planning of services.

We are a family-friendly employer and will be happy to negotiate on working arrangements to achieve a good work / life balance. Both roles are available on fixed-term basis with the option of flexibility on working hours.

Your supporting statement is your opportunity to demonstrate your suitability to the position you are applying for, so please indicate how your skills, knowledge, and experience align with the job description and person specification.

Please include any relevant examples of analysing complex or multiple datasets, the steps you took to ensure quality, and the tools or software you used and what you achieved.

We acknowledge that AI can be a useful tool to support your writing, however, please note that your application should represent your skills and personal experiences accurately and authentically.

Please note: The application period for this role closes at 23:59 on the 17th May. We expect interviews to take place on the week commencing 25 May in person at Sunley House, Papworth.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to complete a data analysis task as part of the interview process.  Details will be given on the day.

For more information or an informal discussion about either position, please contact Andy Mailer, Performance & Intelligence Manager (Childrens, Education and Families) at Andrew.Mailer@Cambridgeshire.gov.uk
