Assistant Director, Policy, Insight and Programmes

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of Cambridgeshire. Working at the heart of the county council, you will collaborate with our politicians, corporate leadership team, services, partners and communities to deliver our vision to become greener, fairer and more caring.

Leading the newly reconfigured Policy, Insight and Programmes service you will provide compelling, data-driven analysis of the county’s challenges, using this to drive the council’s strategy, and convert our plans into deliverable projects and programmes. You will also drive our approach to public engagement, user experience and corporate performance.

Critically, you will need to do this in a complex public service environment, working effectively with district councils, the NHS and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, among others.

This is an opportunity to drive people-powered change in one of the most exciting and beautiful parts of the country.

About you

We actively seek applicants with diverse experience and from a range of backgrounds to this role. Your skills and experience are more important than qualifications. Whilst we have set out a wish list in our person specification, we welcome applications from anyone with relevant experience and the passion and commitment to make a success of this role.

You do not need direct experience of all three parts of the portfolio - data, policy and programmes - but you will need to demonstrate your potential to lead across these areas, bringing out the best in a large and diverse team.

The successful candidate will bring creativity and curiosity to the role, with an ability to think beyond conventional expectations. Given the complexity of the Cambridgeshire public service system, you will need to be a collaborative leader with a proven ability to engage, challenge and communicate with people at all levels, and the empathy to see problems from the perspective of others.

We are committed to hybrid working and have no set pattern to how we expect people to balance their working time between different locations, including their home. Work is what we do, not where we work from. Working together with your colleagues you will determine the best approach to take for you and your teams.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter detailing how your skills and experience meet the criteria for this role to cambsrecruitment@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
