Child and Family Centre Worker

About the role

The role of Child and Family Centres is to improve outcomes for all children, from birth to age 19, and to reduce inequalities in outcomes between children growing up in disadvantage and the wider population.  Child and Family Centres provide a focus for multi-agency teams to deliver integrated services to young children and their families.

Child and Family Centre Workers provide support to families to access information, advice and guidance, play, support and learning opportunities in both targeted and universal group settings. Support will be delivered in both Child & Family Centres and outreach venues within the wider community.
 

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and dedicated workers to help families access the full range of services available. You should have experience of working with families and children, be a good communicator and team worker, and ideally have a relevant NVQ or similar equivalent qualification.

What will you be doing?

With a particular focus on the 0-5 age group, provide support to children and families to
access information, advice and guidance, play, support and learning opportunities in both
targeted and universal group settings. Support will be delivered in both Child & Family
Centres and outreach venues within the wider community. This may also include
supporting crèche provision as and when required, for example when parenting groups
are being delivered.

About you

Qualities:

  • You will be willing, approachable, personable and able to build a positive rapport with children, young people and their families.  

  • You will be willing to continue your professional development through informal and formal training.  

 

Skills and experience:  

  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage requirements. 

  • Understanding of child protection policies and procedures and the importance of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. 

  • Direct experience of working with children aged 0-5 years and their families. 

  • Practical knowledge and experience of working with vulnerable families and being aware of the issues a practitioner may face while working with vulnerable families. 

  • Experience of facilitating group sessions for parents. 

  • Experience of providing information, advice and signposting services to families. 

  • Experience of engaging parents in community activities. 

  • Ability to carry out routine administration, for example attendance records and evaluations. 

  • Competent in the use of IT software including Word, Excel, social media and data reporting systems. 

  • Willingness to travel locally and across the county. 

  • Able to work flexibly to support the delivery of the Child and Family Centre offer, including some evening and weekend working as required. 

  • Ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion and how this applies to this role.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.  Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check. 

You will be required to hold a full and valid driving license and have access to a vehicle or have the ability to otherwise travel efficiently between locations. 

Interviews may include a young people’s panel or parents panel in addition to a targeted support management panel.
