Cambridgeshire County Council is currently creating a brand-new Children's social care development academy which will focus on supporting our Children’s social care workforce to be confident, competent, capable, and feel valued. Our academy will promote an everyday learning culture, that recognises all the different ways of learning and encourages active engagement. It will be a place where practitioners are supported to develop and enhance their critical reflection, practice their skills, and deepen their knowledge. It’s also a place where learning is used to inspire and develop colleagues and enable them to unlock their potential.

We are looking for an inspirational, supportive, and kind person, with the ambition and vision to create our children's social care academy.  As the manager of our academy, you will take a lead role in driving a learning culture where colleagues are fully supported to thrive and flourish within Children’s Social Care.

What will you be doing?

In this role you will lead a development academy that supports social care practitioners to shape, develop and embed their practice by providing the resources and opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities to build trusted relationships with the families they work with and achieve the change needed be an outstanding council.

You’ll be working very closely with colleagues across Children’s Services, where we have a new Executive Director (DCS), new Service Directors, a new Principal Social Worker, and we have separated from Peterborough Children’s Services. Big changes that give us an amazing opportunity to reshape what we do and how we do it, and to put Cambridgeshire back on the map. Why not be part of it?

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be an experienced Children's and families Social Worker with a current SWE registration, who has also taken a keen interest in Learning and Development and will have supported others with their professional development, including providing Practice Education.  
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of applicable legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice for children’s social work
  • Be passionate, curious and creative in the planning and delivery of learning and be confident working with a broad range of learning models and training evaluation techniques
