Commissioner - Care Together

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

The Adult Social Care Commissioning Team is responsible for monitoring, designing, procuring and improving services for people over 18. The community team specifically focuses on people living in their own homes (as opposed to Care Homes or Extra Care facilities). The Care Together programme seeks to transform how we commission services (delivered by providers who may have won a tender or been awarded a grant for a specific purpose) from a one-size-fits-all countywide model to a place-based, community-focused approach that works with local partners (including lower-tier local authorities, health and allied health professionals and VCSE organisations) to support people to remain happy, healthy and independent for longer in the place they call home.

This role is for a place-based Commissioner to build relationships of trust with a wide range of stakeholders in the area that corresponds to Cambridge City.

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Graeme Hodgson, Senior Commissioning Manager (Care Together Programme) at graeme.hodgson@cambridgeshire.gov.uk .

Interviews are planned for week commencing 2nd September 2024.

What will you be doing?

Much of a place-based commissioner’s working week will involve liaising with internal and external partners using MS Teams or face-to-face at monthly team meetings, but you will also be interacting with older adults and other members of the wider public as you attend community events in Cambridge, seek feedback on where there might be gaps in provision and also co-produce with interested parties solutions which work for the local context. Care Together has awarded over £500,000 in grant funding in the past 2 years, to support grass roots community groups and local charities in line with the Council’s ambitions and the objectives of the Care Together programme. You will also be heavily involved in Integrated Neighbourhoods, interacting with health colleagues such as GPs, social prescribers, and occupational therapists, to name a few. In addition, you will work collaboratively with a Care Micro-Enterprise Development officer covering City & South Cambridgeshire, to identify opportunities for expanding our network of micro-providers and meeting unmet need in the population.

About you

Commissioners can come from a broad range of backgrounds, with no specific degree or qualification being required, although this role is ideally suited to university graduates with exceptional communication skills in both written and spoken formats, as well as the ability to engage with people from very different backgrounds. An awareness of and ability to promote and celebrate Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are key success factors in our diverse team and digital and/or marketing skills are also a considerable advantage. Since the work is community-focused, the ability to attend external meetings across Cambridge City is essential, with occasional travel to CCC offices in or near Huntingdon and elsewhere, though travel outside Cambridge is not required every week.

Ideally, you will have demonstrable experience of partnership management and collaborative working, presentation skills and knowledge of the health and social care sector is desirable but not essential.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of a Standard Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
