About the role

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS) provides confidential and impartial information, advice and support to parents and carers of children, up to the age of 25 years, with SEND. We also provide IASS to young people with SEND up to the age of 25 years old.

Your role is to contribute to the effective running of the team and office. Managing the Case Recording Database and the advice line as well as general administration, financial, management support services, to ensure that services are delivered to a high standard.

What will you be doing?

Answering the confidential contact line and responding to emails to the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS). Providing initial and basic advice to parents and young people who contact the service and where appropriate resources, entering details onto the services confidential database and referring the service user to the relevant member of the team for detailed IASS.

You will be responsible for providing regular reports and management information from the confidential database as well as general management support and administrative and financial services. The necessary training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The ability to work with people who can be upset and emotional while remaining calm yourself is important as is the ability to remain focussed on the requirements of your role.

The team is small and friendly and confidential feedback from service users is consistently higher than the national average. As the first point of contact your role is to ensure we continue to meet these standards at initial contact with the service until it is passed to the relevant adviser.

About you

You will need to be/have:

  1. Fully proficient at using IT systems, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office packages.
  2. Experience of using databases.
  3. Extensive office administrative experience
  4. Able to prioritise workload and complete in timely manner, consistently produce work of a high standard, able to work on your own initiative with minimal supervision and be committed to continuous service development.
  5. Knowledge of health and safety legislation, knowledge of Data Protection and Equal Opportunities legislation and their requirements
  6. Understanding of financial management, procedures, and processes
  7. Committed to ongoing personal and role development
  8. Good interpersonal skills - able to communicate in a friendly, open, and constructive manner
  9. Able to communicate over the telephone in a confident and clear manner.
