District Library Assistant - Wisbech & Whittlesey Libraries

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and versatile person to join the team at Wisbech and Whittlesey Libraries.

The postholder will assist and deputise for the Area Library Manager in the day-to-day running of both libraries, as well as the management of staff and volunteers. Candidates must be able to travel between the two libraries as required and work flexibly, with a requirement for some weekend and evening working.

The successful candidate will have a flair for working with people and be able to create a friendly and welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers. They will be excellent at multi-tasking, resourceful and able to work alone and willing to lead a team.

Experience of working in a customer service environment is essential.  Experience of working in libraries would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

This is a full-time post and you will be required to work at Whittlesey Library in addition to Wisbech. You need to be able to drive and have access to a vehicle.  At Wisbech you would work as part of a larger team, but our smaller library in Whittlesey is single-staffed, so this post would involve some lone-working. Please note that library work is physically demanding; see the Job Hazards information for more details.

We want to recognise and celebrate the diversity of our local communities and be responsive to their needs. We also want to ensure that we are a fair and equitable employer, striving to achieve a diverse and culturally competent workforce. We therefore encourage applications from all areas of our community.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 29th March 2023 at Wisbech Library.

Applications must be made online via this system, CVs or other attachments are not accepted.
