About the role
The Finance Service in Cambridgeshire is focused on stewardship of funds on behalf of local taxpayers and promoting value for money across the County Council. We are a diverse team of finance professionals which is highly regarded across the organisation.
Within the Finance Service, our Financial Reporting, Treasury & Tax Team is a central part of ensuring that:
- We produce good quality end of year financial accounts, particularly with regard to the Council’s complex fixed assets
- We prudently manage the Council’s day-to-day cash and borrowing
- We are compliant with tax regulations (particularly VAT) and maximise our entitlement to reclaiming tax
We have a need to boost the level of support in this area as we are committed to continuing to provide a high quality service, and so are looking for someone with skills and experience in any or all of the key areas above to join this highly professional team.
The exact workload will depend on the skills of the person appointed, and so the successful candidate will have the ability to shape the role.
We work on a hybrid basis at Cambridgeshire, with teams coming into the office together around two days per week, with the option to be home or office based for the rest of the week. Re-location support can be provided to eligible people who move to the local area for this role.
Interviews are expected to take place in week commencing 15 May 2023.
For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Ellie Tod at Finance@cambridgeshire.gov.uk. We can also arrange an informal discussion if you email us.
What will you be doing?
You will be undertaking technical accounting and/or VAT work within the portfolio of the Financial Reporting, Treasury and Tax team. Depending on the exact skills of the successful applicant, you will be working on areas including:
- Delivering accurate end of year accounts
- Effective cash flow forecasting
- Monitoring of the Council’s investments
- Timely and accurate VAT returns and improvements to VAT processes
You will have a central role working closely with the Strategic Finance Manager for Corporate Finance, the Head of Finance and colleagues across the whole Finance team to make improvements to corporate accounting processes.
Cambridgeshire County Council is a large and ambitious organisation, and so the work of the central Corporate Finance team is varied and always presents new challenges.
About you
We are looking to appoint a committed and self-motivated financial professional to input into the expert financial services in the Financial Reporting, Treasury & Tax Team.
You will need to be a fully or part-qualified accountant and be able to demonstrate experience in any or all of financial reporting in a local authority setting, treasury management or VAT accounting. VAT accounting skills built up in any sector would be welcome.
