Green Highways Maintenance Officer

The Green Highways Maintenance Officer role, based in our Green Infrastructure team, offers an exciting opportunity for individuals with a love for the outdoors and expertise in horticultural maintenance. As part of our Highways Maintenance team, you will spearhead a new way of working, utilising cutting-edge asset management software to enhance the maintenance and preservation of our green highways including the maintenance of grass verges, weeds, hedges, shrubs, and trees. 

In-person interviews will be conducted during the week commencing 16th September at New Shire Hall, Alconbury Weald, PE28 4YE.

What will you be doing?

Site inspections across the county highways network, sometimes in very remote locations. 

Investigating reported faults on the green highway network from members of the public and elected members.  

Updating data collected whilst onsite using our asset management system. 

Leading change in the way we manage and maintain our highway green infrastructure to contribute to nature recovery and our Climate Crisis response. 

Implementing innovative practices to ensure the sustainability and resilience of our green spaces. 

Utilising your horticultural knowledge to enhance the beauty and biodiversity of our highways. 

Collaborating with various stakeholders, including community groups, partner organisations, and elected council members. 

Engaging in customer correspondence and building strong relationships with stakeholders. 

Utilising your grounds maintenance, highways and best practice horticultural knowledge daily. 

You will spend some of your time lone working as well as working as part of the team and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

About you

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates with the following qualifications and attributes: 

Drive to make our green highways network open and accessible to all user groups and understand their induvial needs. 

Ability to navigate daily to remote site locations where public transport may not be available. 

Ability to plan routes of site visits to minimise travel time and environmental impact. 

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with diverse audiences. 

Motivated to make a visible difference in our communities and contribute to our net zero ambition. 

Have experience/knowledge in MapInfo or other GIS related software.  

Confident in using a range of software to support on-site operations. 

Have an open mindset and be willing to change and evolve.
