About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cambridgeshire County Council as the Head of Communities Service.  

Please note this role is only available to applicants who are currently employed by Cambridgeshire County Council or Peterborough City Council. 

Following recent permanent investment in the service, we are seeking to appoint to this high-profile role which will involve working closely with a wide range of key partners and overseeing the day-to-day leadership and management of the service.

The role is offered on a full-time basis, with a main base at New Shire Hall in Alconbury Weald. We offer flexible working arrangements, but some travel across Cambridgeshire will be required.

What will you be doing?

You will be leading the implementation of the new service structure, bringing together our approaches to supporting local development of services to support young people and the wider community 

The role will require you to support services to take a place-based, decentralised approach. You will support teams to listen to communities and enable them to work creatively and collaboratively to address local needs. 

You will create opportunities to join up services across the council and partners to improve outcomes for residents, as well as working with colleagues and external partners to improve outcomes for communities across the county. 

About you

The successful candidate will have significant experience of working together with public, private and voluntary sector partners, engaging communities and leading teams to achieve positive outcomes for local people. 

You will need experience of managing people, and be confident and skilled in leading and developing a team. You will need an understanding of our service ethos, which demonstrates flexibility, professionalism and commitment to the council priorities, and be able to motivate your team to work proactively in this way. 

You will take an innovative, creative approach to the role, placing communities at the heart of service development.
