Highway Assets Development Co-ordinator

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

Highways is not just about pavements, pathways and potholes!  Cambridgeshire’s Highway Maintenance service also plays its part in supporting the delivery of major infrastructure schemes, and we need a confident individual with great interpersonal and communication skills to help lead our team’s response to new developments.

For more information or to talk about this opportunity, please contact Daniel Ashman, Highway Records and Definitive Map Manager: 07484 509 520, or Daniel.ashman@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

This is a new role aimed to make the Highways Maintenance service more responsive to development.  You’ll be working collaboratively with infrastructure developers, internal stakeholders and partner organisations to co-ordinate robust and professional representations of the service’s requirements, helping to make the highway network resilient for the future and to minimise the risks posed by new developments.  You should have a passion for protecting the interests of our communities to help us ensure that the highway network is fit for the needs of the public.

Working on technical response documents, you will have excellent written, communication and presentation skills, as well as a good general competency with standard IT packages.  Alongside this, you’ll be joining a busy records management service and will play a part in managing our development-related datasets, so some experience of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) would also be advantageous.

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate their knowledge of legislation, standards and principles related to local government, planning and highways.  Understanding the centrality of public rights of way to sustainable developments, the ability to manage projects, and an awareness of political sensitivities are also important to this role.

On-the-job training and induction will be given, and candidates with good transferable skills from related areas are encouraged to apply.  Innovative thinkers, with an agile outlook and an organised, professional approach, will find in this role a real opportunity to make their mark on how our service works, and to learn about an increasingly important part of the development agenda.

In person interviews to be conducted week commencing the 4th December 2023.
