About the role

Cambridgeshire County Council is offering an exciting opportunity for an engineer with highway development management experience to fulfil a demanding role in our busy team dealing with the challenges that an ambitious and wide-ranging growth agenda for the County presents.

Place and Sustainability is at the forefront of making sure Cambridgeshire is open for business. The role is based within the Transport Strategy & Network Management Service, which is responsible for leading on the development and delivery of key infrastructure and policy across Cambridgeshire and is therefore pivotal to Cambridgeshire delivering on its long-term infrastructure and transport aspirations.

What will you be doing?

Key responsibilities of the post will be to develop, promote and secure the County’s transport objectives through the assessment of development proposals.  You will provide impartial advice and support to Local Planning Authorities, negotiate with developers to secure new development infrastructure, and manage the implementation of such infrastructure through the technical and engineering assessment of developer design and construction submissions, secured by appropriate legal highway agreements.

The role will require you to work closely with a variety of teams within the County Council, partners including District Councils, developers, and members of the public. Attendance at Committees and working with elected members is also a key element of the role so in addition to your strong technical and negotiation skills, strong communication skills, both speaking and in writing are important attributes.

About you

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent in a transport or Civil Engineering related discipline together with experience of highway development management

You will have a sound knowledge of the planning system and the associated highway works procedures, with the ability to work with colleagues, stakeholders, partners and the public to take responsibility for a seamless approach to service delivery and to facilitate effective coordination of development related projects on the public highway and responses across teams.

The role has a flexible work base but the ability to travel to different locations is essential.
