What will you be doing?

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Public Health team working across the Healthy Place and Social Determinants of Health portfolio.

Our work focuses on improving population health and reducing health inequalities through prevention, partnership working, and evidence-informed approaches.

As a Public Health Officer, you will support the development and delivery of a range of programmes that aim to create healthier environments and address the wider determinants of health. This includes work on health inequalities, healthy place approaches, and equity-focused research and evaluation.

You will play an important role in ensuring programmes are well coordinated, effectively managed, and deliver meaningful impact for our communities. You will work closely with colleagues across public health, the wider council, NHS partners, and the voluntary and community sector to support delivery of shared priorities.

In this role, you will provide project and programme support across a range of public health priorities. Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of public health projects and programmes
  • Monitoring progress against plans, milestones, and outcomes, and producing reports and updates for senior colleagues
  • Organising and supporting meetings, including preparing papers, taking minutes, and following up on actions
  • Maintaining project documentation such as plans, risk and issue logs, and reporting templates
  • Supporting effective communication and collaboration with internal teams and external partners
  • Assisting with data collection, analysis, and presentation to inform decision-making and track impact
  • Contributing to research, evaluation, and evidence-gathering activity to support service improvement
  • Supporting budget monitoring and administrative processes related to programme delivery

About you

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with strong project coordination skills and an interest in improving Public Health outcomes.

You will bring:

  • A degree or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of public health principles and the wider determinants of health
  • Awareness of the policy and organisational context for public health delivery (including the role of local government, the NHS, and partners)
  • Experience supporting or coordinating projects, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple workstreams
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • The ability to work accurately with data, reports, and project information
