Relief Mobile Library Driver / Supervisor

About the role

We have a vacancy for a relief zero hours driver on our Mobile Libraries, driving various  routes across Cambridgeshire and delivering a mobile library service from the vehicle.

This role is a varied, sociable, community focused opportunity for an individual interested in community engagement and libraries.

What will you be doing?

The position involves driving predetermined routes in mostly rural villages across Cambridgeshire, including visits to schools, sheltered & residential accommodation and regular village/town locations. 

You will be delivering a library service from the vehicle and responding to customer queries,

About you

  • Competent and confident with driving large vehicles in both urban and rural settings. A C1 entitlement to drive vehicles up to 7.5t is necessary to drive our Mobile Libraries. 

  • Able to create a friendly and welcoming environment for a diverse range of customers 

  • Confident in using IT (training will be given on specific library systems) 

  • Excellent at multi-tasking, efficient, happy to work under pressure & confident with working alone on a Mobile Library.  

  • Passionate about what public libraries offer, and able to promote our services. 

  • Library experience is desirable, but we also welcome candidates who have demonstrated exceptional customer service elsewhere. 

Please note library work can be physically demanding.

Staff may also occasionally be asked to cover other roles within Cambridgeshire libraries.  

Some evening and weekend working may be required to attend promotional events, acting as a representative of the Library Service, The County Council and partner organisations.
