Relief Night Support Worker - March Accommodation & Respite Services

About the role

Alder Close Supported Living & Respite is based in the town of March and supports adults with a learning disability.  The respite service offers carers a break from their caring role.  The supported living service provides care and support to adults living within a shared accommodation.

The role of Support Worker is to enable adults with a disability to live as independently as possible and to enjoy lifestyles as close to those enjoyed by other members of the community. We support and empower individuals to enhance the quality of their life, maximise potential and to continue to promote and develop independence skills within their home or whilst staying at Respite.  

This role provides waking night cover to ensure service users care and support needs are met during the hours of 10pm-8am. 

Shifts will be available during the week, at weekends and Bank Holidays. Additional enhancements are paid for weekend and Bank Holiday working. As this is a relief role, there will be no guaranteed hours. We are also unable to offer sponsorship with this post as it is a zero hours contract.

The starting pay for the posts is £15.96 per hour, this includes our night rate enhancement (£23.94 Saturday hours- £28.40 Sunday hours).

What will you be doing?

You will report to the Senior Support worker and work in a small team to provide practical support.  Due to the nature of this role, the post holder will often be lone working and will not readily have support and/or supervision available. You will therefore need to be able to respond immediately to crisis situations or instances of challenging behaviour in the accommodation setting by assessing the situation as it arises and the consequent level of risk to the service user and others.

The role includes supporting with personal care where needed, cleaning, and ensuring service users safety during the night including the administration of medication.

You will be using IT to update documents such as support plans, risk assessments and will have a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and assessments of capacity.

About you

You will need to have a proficient level of written and spoken English for the purposes of case recording and to enable you to work towards a qualification in Health and Social Care if you do not already hold this qualification.

You will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as IT skills in order to keep up to date records and complete risk assessments. It is also essential that you have an ability to demonstrate awareness and understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion, the Mental Capacity Act and the need for safety and confidentiality within the role.
