Restorative Justice Officer

About the role

For more information or to chat about this opportunity please contact Matthew Pink matthew.pink@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or Steph Burrage stephanie.burrage@cambridgeshire.gov.uk

What will you be doing?

The role will find you working with children and young people known to the Youth Justice Service, and the victims of their offences, to discuss the impact of any harm caused, and to explore the possibility of their involvement in the restorative process. You will support both parties through the various restorative options and will facilitate face to face restorative meetings. You will be gathering the views of victims to aid the decision making of Out of Court Disposal Panels, providing impartial information enabling victims to make informed choices regarding any restorative justice involvement they may have with young people and a restorative process. You will offer restorative training to the wider team and ensure that victim safety and the victim’s voice is heard within risk planning processes. Another key part of the role will be to recruit, train and supervise volunteers to take part in Referral Order Panels.

About you

You will have experience of working with victims of crime and/or children and young people, specifically those exhibiting risky or antisocial behaviours, and be able to demonstrate an awareness of issues relating to youth crime and it’s causes. You will have a strong commitment to the principles of restorative justice and a proven ability to work independently whilst also being able to work supportively within a team environment. This role is emotionally challenging and you will have an ability and willingness to travel across the county to work with victims and children in their homes, at times outside core hours.

Applicants will need an NVQ level 3 or level 4 Diploma, Youth Justice Certificate in Effective Practice or recognised Restorative Justice Training or equivalent qualifications.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
