We are looking for a dedicated, hard-working person to join our school team. We need a caretaker with some maintenance skills, initiative and responsibility as a key holder, you will also need to complete the cleaning product order forms and will be required to use the internet for emails and submitting meter readings. You will also be required to undertake weekly fire alarm testing and water temperature testing throughout the school. You will need to liaise and meet with contractors on site and to arrange quotes for maintenance work that may need doing.
The successful candidate will work 5 days a week, 2 hours each morning, times to be agreed.

What will you be doing?
Job purpose
To maintain site security and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds and provide a safe working environment. Provide the full range of caretaking services required by The Ashbeach Primary School.
Duties and responsibilities
Key Accountabilities
Security
• As the main keyholder be responsible for the security of the premises, to include the opening up of the premises including that of the extended
school provision and lettings.
• To be responsible for the premises outside normal working hours with regard to locking and unlocking and any additional cleaning, setting security
alarm systems, carrying out security checks and responding to emergency call outs.
Heating of Building
• Operate the heating plant so that the required temperatures are maintained and an adequate supply of hot water is available.
• To ensure that all plant and equipment operates at maximum efficiency and economy with special regard to energy conservation.
Maintenance of Building and Equipment
• To undertake a range of re-decoration and minor maintenance work as agreed with the line manager.
• To undertake day to day maintenance of the premises and its furnishings such as minor plumbing and carpentry, changing light bulbs, unblocking
drains and repairing door furniture.
• Carry out routine procedures and inspection of ancillary equipment e.g. window blinds, pumps, clocks etc.
• Ensure that caretaking and cleaning equipment is in a safe and proper working condition.
• In conjunction with line manager, arrange for maintenance work to be carried out, to include escorting contractors and others to sites of repair and
maintenance, monitoring safety working practices and reporting where possible on the quality of contractor work and follow up any apparent
failures.
Outside Duties
• Undertake activities to maintain safe and clean external environments e.g. gritting, litter picks, sweeping.
• To keep surface drains free of obstruction.
• Emptying of litter bins or baskets, disposal of rubbish and keeping the bin areas clean and tidy.
Health and Safety
• To be responsible for carrying out health and safety checks including fire, emergency lighting and keeping accurate up to date records under the
direction of the line manager.
Other general duties
• To be responsible for the receiving of deliveries of goods and equipment and distributing as appropriate.
• To maintain appropriate records, as required, of levels of cleaning /sundries and repairs and maintenance materials.
• To be responsible for cleaning and the management of any cleaning staff, undertake emergency cleaning as required.
• Setting out and putting away of furniture as necessary.
Supplementary Accountabilities
• Be aware and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security and confidentiality, reporting all concerns
to an appropriate person.
• Attend relevant meetings as required.
• Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
• Treat all users of the school with courtesy and respect.
• Present a positive personal image, contributing to a welcoming environment which supports equal opportunities for all.
• Promote and ensure the health and safety of children, staff and visitors and user groups (in accordance with health and safety legislation) at all
times.
Decision Making
• Managing work in liaison with line manager to meet business needs.
Contacts and relationships
• The postholder may be required to supervise cleaning, other site staff and contractors where appropriate.
Physical Effort
• At certain points of the day the postholder will be expected to undertake bending, lifting and stretching in the course of their duties e.g. minor
maintenance work, remedial painting and decorating, repairs to fixings, receiving deliveries of goods and equipment, moving and setting out and
putting away of furniture.
Other duties
The postholder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to the post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or responsibilities entailed. Such variations are a common occurrence and would not of themselves justify the re-evaluation of the post. In cases however, where a permanent and substantial change in the duties of a post occurs, consistent with a higher level of responsibility, then the post would be eligible for re-evaluation.
