We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Special Educational Needs Casework Officer to join our Statutory Assessment Team in Cambridgeshire.

The Local Authority has clearly defined roles and responsibilities in relation to children and young people aged 0-25 years with Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).  The Statutory Assessment Team are committed to improving the quality and timeliness of our EHCP’s and ensuring the best outcomes for children and young people with the effective use of resources in settings, schools and colleges both in and out of county.

What will you be doing?

As a Senior SEN Casework Officer, you will drive forward the service’s vision alongside other Senior Officers by:

  • Managing a team of SEN Casework Officers to ensure the delivery of high quality, fully integrated services to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families
  • Complying with Statutory regulations in the preparation and review of Education, Health and Care plans (EHC) in accordance with the Children & Families Act 2014
  • Keeping children and families at the centre of decision making in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014
  • Providing expert advice, guidance and support to all staff, relevant colleagues and partners
  • Managing conflict and de-escalation, utilising a solution-focused approach
  • Working in collaboration with our partner agencies including Health, Social Care and wider Education professionals.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will need to have the skills to support the leadership of a fast paced and committed SEND Service, utilising your expert technical /professional knowledge and experience.

You will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Education to Degree Standard or equivalent
  • Experience of working with children and young people with SEND
  • A good understanding of local area: Health, Education, Social care
  • Knowledge of SEND reforms and the Children’s Act
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting Mediation and SEND Tribunal Appeals
  • The ability to develop plans for improvement and implement Quality Assurance
  • The ability to identify issues, negotiate and resolve problems using initiative
  • Experience of line management and leading teams through a period of change
  • A sound understanding of the principles of effective performance management
  • The ability to manage conflict and de-escalate issues in a solution focused manner
  • A good understanding of SEND thresholds.
