Senior Social Worker - Adults' Mental Health Team

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join our North Cambridge Adult Mental Health Team as a Senior Social Worker, working with Adults aged 18-64.  The team is based at Union House, Cambridge.

These roles offer a chance to work in parts of Cambridgeshire with a diverse population and many opportunities and challenges. There will also be the opportunity to develop a supervisory role.

Why join us in Adult Mental Health? We’ll provide you with:

  • Opportunities in both Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) for career development with specialist and individual training.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team with Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
  • Weekly clinical meetings where you can bring cases you want to speak about and get professional advice, achieving the best outcomes for service users.
  • Clear professional pathways and opportunities for progression including opportunities for funded training to become an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) and Practice Educator (PE).
  • Supportive managers who promote a culture where you feel safe in your practice. As one Social Worker comments “the managers give you autonomy to be able to make decisions. They trust you as a Social Worker to know what’s best for the service users you work with”.
  • A commitment to consistently prioritising supervision.
  • A dedication to Social Workers' wellbeing with regular mindfulness sessions.

One of our Social Workers said “I was supported to do both my Practice Educator training and my AMHP training within 3 years of joining the team. As well as the additional training, I’ve progressed from Social Worker to Senior Social Worker, and more recently to Social Work Manager thanks to the incredible development opportunities available to me”.

For more information about this role call Nathalie on 01223 699263. Alternatively, you can email us on welovesocialworkers@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or visit our website for more information.

This is a rolling campaign, and we will review applications daily so please don't wait for the closing date to apply, we want to speak to you now!

We know that your time is precious, so our interviews are generally held virtually, by Microsoft Teams, to provide the most flexible recruitment process. We may include a virtual assessment as part of this, but we’ll give you all of the relevant information ahead of time.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

The main duties of the role include:

  • Working with adults aged 18-64 who have a variety of mental health needs, many of whom will be known to secondary mental health services (including specialist services and forensic services).
  • Working creatively with cases of complexity (including safeguarding), alongside completing assessments and reviews under the Care Act.
  • Practicing as an AMHP (or complete training to become one).
  • Opportunities to supervise others and gain the Practice Educator qualification.
  • Offering social work expertise to Social Workers and health colleagues.
  • Working in partnership with other agencies and frequently working in a multi-disciplinary setting (including ward liaison).

You will also be expected (and supported) to develop your knowledge and skills in reflective practice, with an emphasis on social work models in the mental health context.

One of our newest Social Workers had this to say about her experience joining the team:

‘Having recently started working in Adult’s Mental Health as part of the Social Worker Team I am learning how our role fits within the wider Multi-Disciplinary Cambridge Adult Locality Team (CALT). Our days are never the same and we work with a variety of individuals and professionals. As Social Workers we are able to work flexibly from home and the office alongside ensuring our relationships with our colleagues are maintained through regular Team Meetings and Supervisions. I have found the Social Worker Team and CALT so welcoming with a vast amount of knowledge and experience between them. There is also a wide variety of support and training provided not only from CCC and the NHS, but from colleagues to ensure that we are providing the best support we can with the individuals we work with.’
