Senior Social Worker - Mental Health Forensic Social Work

About the role

This role is a Senior Social Worker role and it entails working specifically working with those people who have needs associated with their mental health and are eligible for care and support from Cambridgeshire County Council – Mental Health Social Work. This role will also include support to those people with eligible needs who are currently cared for within the geographic area of Norfolk. 

The Central Council for Training and Education in Social Work first defined the forensic social work role in 1995 as follows: “Forensic social work is social work with mentally disordered people who present, or are subject to, significant risk and as a consequence are, or could be, in contact with the criminal justice system…The key purpose of forensic social work is to hold in balance the protection of the public and the promotion of the quality of life of individuals and by working in partnership with relevant others to identify, assess and manage risk; identify and challenge discriminatory structures and practices; engage effectively and identify, develop and implement strategies.”

What will you be doing?

Provide professional leadership to colleagues in situations involving highly complex case arrangements for assessment and support planning, particularly in scenarios that involve risk, complexity, and the safety of the service user and others.

Complete Ministry of Justice reports in a timely fashion and undertake social supervisor tasks within the community.

Complete and agree with service users on assessments, care/support plans, and s117 reviews.

Actively engage with, assist, and provide advice to carers, conducting carers’ assessments when appropriate, to enable them to sustain their caring role.

Allocate and authorise support packages as appropriate.

Manage and utilise cash-limited budgets to commission services and assistance from other sources.

Support other team members when the Team Manager is away.

Complete Social Circumstances reports and be available for any cases that go to court.

About you

You need to be dynamic, innovative, committed, and passionate. You’ll bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill base to the challenge of working as part of the team.

Your existing skills enable you to support and develop others, act as a role model for good practice, and ensure the very best outcomes for the people of Cambridgeshire.

You represent Cambridgeshire County Council in multi-agency networks, working jointly with them to assess, plan, and implement integrated care. This promotes independence and choice, avoids admissions, and facilitates discharge.

You work in partnership with other organisations at a strategic level to achieve positive outcomes for service users and carers.
