Street Works and Permit Coordinator

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic person to work as a Street Works and Permit Coordinator, based in our Huntingdon office. This is an exciting opportunity to manage the co-ordination of works on the highways network working as part of a team.

The Cambridgeshire County Council Permit Scheme for Road Works and Street Works aims to improve our capability to effectively manage and maintain the local highway network whilst allowing promoters access to maintain their services and assets. The team is playing a vital part in the council’s move toward greater sustainability by facilitating the expansion of the electric vehicle charging network, new initiatives such as district heating, the ambitious fast fibre networks to ensure at least 85% of our residents and business have digital connectivity by 2025 and contributing to the county lowering carbon to net zero by 2030.

What will you be doing?

You will liaise with utility companies, our highways service contractor and other stakeholders to ensure we work together with minimal disruption to the network. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the works are carried out in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and the Traffic Management Act 2004.

This role is a permanent full-time role. Initially team members will need to be fully office-based for support and training .  The role is predominantly office based with opportunity to work from home.  Frequency will depend on the office rota. Office core hours are 8am to 4.30pm.

About you

You will have an eye for detail and accuracy, to effectively manage data and reporting responsibilities.

You will require good communication skills to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, and an ability to be flexible to meet changing demands.

You should have knowledge and experience relating to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Traffic Management Act 2004, Highways Act 1980 and Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, associated codes of practices and regulations and will advise and support our Streetworks and Permit Officers on a day-to-day basis.

You must be computer literate and be able to use mapping software and databases.
