We have a multi-million pound programme which will provide you with the practical learning and tools required to develop within the construction industry and learn about client and contractor environments and our partnership working. As a Technician Apprentice you will not only enhance your skills, knowledge and performance on the job, but you will become an important part of the team with support provided for every step of your amazing journey. You will become a valued member of our Project Delivery team, take on responsibility to help drive forward our delivery programme and take benefit from a varied and diverse programme of works.

What will you be doing?

You will be;

  • Working closely with a diverse team of 65-100+ people and developing your skills in a wide range of exciting projects
  • Learning about project lifecycles which in turn will allow you to support your team
  • Learning and using relevant software. You will get to understand and learn digital skills to help us build our ‘digital by default’ approach
  • Involved in meetings and assist in building key relationships

Training and Qualifications;

  • The apprenticeship course we will be offering is for a Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician, starting in the Autumn 2023. This will be based between our offices in Huntingdon and Alconbury. 
  • Training will be a weekly session with an additional block over the duration of the course via an approved training provider to meet the requirements of the apprenticeship.
  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive a Civil Engineering Senior Technician Level 4
  • You will be trained in areas such as project delivery from conception through to completion, quality assurance and compliance, communication engagement and financial and programme monitoring.

Career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Your learning journey can continue with Cambridgeshire County Council, subject to role availability, Our Project Delivery team has a career progression scheme in place.

Working Week

  • Monday to Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm.We support agile working and day/block release for studies. Total hours per week 37.
  • Expected duration is 36 months

You will need to demonstrate your enthusiasm for the role and willingness to apply yourself in a workplace environment and in return we have a variety of teams to work with, including Design and Delivery, Contract Management, Complex Infrastructure and Project Management Office and an excellent opportunity for career progression in the future.

Desired skills and personal qualities

  • IT skills, communication skills, problem solving skills, creative skills, initiative, attention to details and organisation skills.

Qualifications

  • Candidates will require a Level 3 BTEC or A level or equivalent (Grade B or above) 
  • Applications will be accepted with Predicted/Pending A-Level/BTEC grades - Please note on your application.
  • Some of the modules (mainly structures) would require an ability to learn complex mathematics to be successful in this apprenticeship.

Things to consider

  • You may be working out on site, FULL (Personal Protective Equipment) PPE will be provided, and risk assessments will be completed.
