Youth Justice Service Officer

About the role

The Youth Justice Service is a multi-disciplinary team delivering services to prevent and reduce offending behaviour amongst young people. A Probation Officer / Probation Service officer is seconded across to the Youth Justice Service. At present a vacancy is available to cover for this seconded post on a fixed term basis. An experienced practitioner is needed who is able to work with a wide range of young people who enter the criminal justice system.

The post is on a fixed term basis until March 2024 and based at Awdry House, Wisbech though it is anticipated that at least half the time will be working from home or away from the office. There is the possibility that in the fulness of time the contract could be extended or even become permanent.

Secondments from within Cambridgeshire County Council are welcome, but agreement from the current line manager will be required..

What will you be doing?

The positions are in a very challenging but rewarding area, working with young offenders ranging from those who haven't yet reached the court system through to those in prisons. The successful candidates will manage caseloads of community and custodial sentences ensuring effective assessment, intervention planning, review and risk management. To effectively divert young people from offending, the post-holders will be working with a range of other team members whose roles include substance misuse, psychology, accommodation, victims, education, training and employment.

About you

Applicants will need a qualification at diploma level or above in a relevant subject such as social work, youth work or probation. The roles involve working with offenders, courts, risk assessment, report writing and with partner agencies, so experience in these areas is important.
