Business Officer

About the role

Business Officer – Youth Justice Service

Would you like a varied and rewarding role where your organisation, communication and problem-solving skills can help make a real difference to children, families and communities?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and proactive Business Officer to join our Business Support team working with the Youth Justice Service (YJS).

This is a 37-hour post based at Scott House, Huntingdon, with the opportunity to combine office based and home working. We are also happy to consider a part-time job-share arrangement.

About the Youth Justice Service

The Youth Justice Service is a statutory, multi-agency service working primarily with children aged 10 to 17 who have offended or are at risk of offending. Our work is focused on preventing and reducing offending and reoffending, protecting the public, and helping children achieve positive outcomes.

YJS brings together professionals from children's social care, education, police, probation, health and other specialist services. Working together enables us to take a whole-child approach, considering each child's strengths, needs, vulnerabilities and individual circumstances alongside their offending behaviour.

The service supports children at different stages of the youth justice system, including at police stations and court, through out-of-court disposals and community sentences, during periods in custody and following release. We also work closely with families and partner agencies to address factors that may contribute to offending and help children make positive and sustainable changes.

Our work also includes supporting victims of youth crime, including through restorative justice where appropriate.

As a Business Officer, you'll be an important part of the Youth Justice Service, providing the high-quality business support that helps a busy multi-agency service run effectively.

This is a varied role where your attention to detail, organisation and ability to keep things moving will make a genuine contribution to the work of the service.

What will you be doing?

Your work will include:

  • maintaining accurate case records and electronic information
  • processing referrals and court information
  • monitoring key dates, actions and statutory processes
  • coordinating and supporting multi-agency meetings and panels
  • preparing correspondence, reports and other documentation
  • supporting data quality and performance reporting
  • liaising with practitioners, colleagues and partner agencies
  • helping to ensure information is accurate, up to date and available when it is needed.

By providing reliable and effective Business Support, you'll help our practitioners spend more of their time focusing on their direct work with children and families.

About you

We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, takes pride in providing a high-quality service and brings a positive, flexible and 'can do' approach to their work.

You'll be comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change, and you'll be able to organise your own workload while contributing to the wider work of the team.

You will need:

  • good IT skills, including experience of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • experience of using client databases or electronic record systems
  • excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise, plan ahead and meet deadlines
  • good written and verbal communication skills
  • a methodical and accurate approach to your work
  • the confidence to use your own initiative and problem-solve when needed
  • the ability to remain calm and organised when working under pressure
  • good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • confidence communicating with colleagues, professionals and partner agencies by email, telephone and face to face
  • an understanding of the importance of confidentiality and data protection.

You do not need to underestimate the value of strong Business Support skills in this role. If you are organised, adaptable, enjoy working with others and want to use your skills in a service that makes a difference to children and families, we would be pleased to hear from you.

Please use your supporting statement to tell us how your skills, knowledge and experience meet the essential criteria in the person specification.

We recognise that relevant experience can be gained in different settings. If you have strong administrative or Business Support skills and can demonstrate that you meet the essential requirements of the role, we encourage you to apply even if you have not previously worked within Youth Justice.
