About the role

Higher Level Teaching Assistant High Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Hours: 29 per week.

We have an exciting role in our school for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will work to supportthe class teachers, groups of children and individuals during their lessons.

Excellent English and Maths subject knowledge is essential to ensure that the needs of all children can be met and so that you are able to model what the children need to learn. Responsibilities include:

 Working with a class, supervising some PPA lessons under the direction of class teachers and the Senior Leadership Team

 Working to meet the needs of groups of children and individuals, including some catch up intervention groups

 Support for the teacher, maintaining class records; promote pupils’ good behaviour and independent learning strategies; create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment

 Provide targeted support to enhance the learning and improve attainment of pupils

 Being flexible to work across the school with all the Primary age range

Our ideal candidate would have:

 Experience of working as a HLTA or Level 3 TA

 Experience of teaching classes from teachers plans

 A passion for teaching and learning and a commitment to working as part of a team to provide a caring and positive learning environment

 Initiative and flexibility

 Good literacy and numeracy skills with excellent communication skills both spoken and written

 A good sense of humour with a positive personality

 Successful completion of a level 3 or above qualification in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent

Job title: Level 4 High Level Teaching Assistant

Responsible for:

To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.

Purpose of the job:

To provide high quality support, high quality education and care for all pupils and be committed to the safeguarding of children;

All successful candidates will have to complete an enhanced DBS check and not be disqualified to work with children.

Main Purpose:

To complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision.

This may involve adapting planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups or whole classes and monitoring pupils and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils achievement, progress and development.

Responsible for addressing the needs of pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers of learning.

Management of other teaching assistants within lessons you teach.

Main Responsibilities and Duties Support for Pupils and Teachers

 Working closely with class teachers to discuss their planning and prepare lessons when covering the teachers PPA or leadership time

 Sourcing equipment and resources

 Providing evidence for the SENCo about specific children

 Planning, delivering and assessing programmes according class teachers and other professionals assessment reports

 Writing reports for areas of the curriculum you are responsible for delivering to class teachers

 Working effectively with other members of the school team

 Liaising with class teachers about the children in their class

 Sharing knowledge and working in partnership with parents as appropriate Support for the Curriculum

 Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses/needs

 Actively seek information regarding, and utilise, the range of activities to provide support for pupils to broaden and enrich their learning

 Determine the need for, prepare and use specialist equipment, plans and resources to support pupils

Support for the School

 Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures including having effective behaviour management

Comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person

 Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop

 Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school

 Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of pupils

 Participate in training and other learning activities as required

 Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others  Attend and participate in relevant meetings both during and after the school day as required  To continuously develop your own role, taking responsibility for identifying and addressing training and development needs

 To carry out, as and when required, any additional tasks and responsibilities as are reasonably compatible with this job description and its objectives
