Social Worker - Disabled Children Access and Referral Team

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

About the role

Are you a passionate Social Worker looking to become a vital part of a Specialist Disabled Children’s Access and Referral Team?  If so the Disability Social Care 0-25 Service wants to share this exciting opportunity with you.

The team is dedicated to providing a high quality and effective assessment service for disabled children and their families in a timely manner and within statutory guidelines. We assess and identify the level of need and determine what intervention is needed to support the children and their families.

We are committed to giving young people and their families choice, control and flexibility in how they manage their support needs, and the right to access inclusive services and be part of their own community.

This is a brilliant opportunity to join a lively and dynamic team on a full time, permanent basis. We pride ourselves on our strong communication and supportive environment, always putting children at the heart of everything we do. Come and experience this for yourself!

Enjoy a mix of home and office working with our hybrid model.  Social Workers are generally expected to be in the office at least once a week after their induction period. The office is located at the Buttsgrove Centre, Huntingdon although currently we are working one day a week at Scott House, Huntingdon. We support flexible working requests from day one of employment and so we are open to discussing different working patterns, in line with the needs of the service, to help you bring your best self to work.

Don’t miss out on this chance to make a real difference! For more information about this role please contact Team Manager Jane Watson on 01480 372 767. Alternatively, you can email us on joinus@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or visit our website for more information.

We know that your time is precious, so our interviews will be held virtually, by Microsoft Teams, on 25th or 26th Sept, to provide the most flexible recruitment process. We will include a virtual assessment as part of this, but we’ll give you all of the relevant information ahead of time.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for assessing the needs, managing risk and supporting disabled children and young people, identifying the appropriate pathway for them such as access to short breaks through our Disabled Children’s Early Help offer or as children in need and transferring to one of our longer term Disabled Children's social work teams. You will manage a caseload and achieve positive outcomes for the county’s most vulnerable residents.

Our team is dedicated to supporting you. We have separated our case and personal supervisions so that we can focus on your development and progression. We also hold weekly wellbeing catch ups and case discussion huddles so that you can share concerns and experiences.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have an understanding of relevant SEND legislation and policy, along with knowledge of the factors that lead to improved outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

You will be a confident and dynamic individual who enjoys making a difference in their local community. Curious to explore possibilities, you'll spot things that others might not see and enjoy building relationships.

You must:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration
  • Have the ability to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide independently
