About the role

This is an exciting time for SEND in Cambridgeshire with a number of key transformation initiatives being implemented in accordance with our SEND Strategy.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated professional who has the passion, knowledge and ability to lead our statutory assessment team in Cambridgeshire. This role oversees all assessment and placement activity relating to the statutory education health and care process for all of our children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. This role is an extremely important part of our SEND leadership team, and will be instrumental in the implementation of some of our key elements of our exciting transformation work.

The role is advertised at P4 Grade, and a market supplement would be considered for exceptional candidates.

What will you be doing?

You will lead on the co-ordination and delivery of SEND statutory processes ensuring we comply with all relevant legislation and regulations. You will model and ensure robust, child focused decision making, and ensure that children, young people and their families are at the heart of everything we do through this service.

You will lead by example a team of highly trained, committed professionals and ensure effective delivery of high-quality practice. This will include the line management of two deputies, and oversight of the Additional Needs Team.

You will promote in all you do, the ethos of co-production and multiagency working across all sectors that interface with the statutory processes including health and social care. You will play a lead role alongside the Head of SEND in the partnership working with our parent carer forum.

About you

You will be a highly skilled, experienced SEND professional who has had experience leading the statutory assessment function within a local authority setting successfully. You will be a natural leader with the ability to make positive relationships quickly with both internal and external colleagues. You will be confident in your decision making against the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and have experience of working within the Tribunal framework. You will have evidenced experience of resilience within a demanding workspace and be able to show examples of occasions where you have successfully changed processes to improve the working environment for a team.
